Bestatin

Bestatin is a statin cholesterol-lowering medication containing Simvastatin as its active ingredient. It belongs to the HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor class. The drug works by blocking the enzyme HMG-CoA Reductase, which plays a central role in cholesterol production in the liver.

• Unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, upper abdominal pain — signs of hepatitis

The risk of Rhabdomyolysis increases with high doses and when combined with drugs that inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme.

Do not use:

• Known allergy to Simvastatin or any other statin
• Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding — absolutely contraindicated. Cholesterol is essential for foetal development; statins may cause birth defects
• Concurrent use of: Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, Clarithromycin, HIV Protease Inhibitors, Gemfibrozil, Cyclosporine, Danazol

Use with caution:

• Heavy alcohol consumption — increases liver damage risk
• Elderly — higher risk of muscle-related side effects
• Uncontrolled hypothyroidism — increases Myopathy risk
• Avoid large quantities of grapefruit juice — inhibits CYP3A4, dangerously increasing drug levels
• Regular blood tests to monitor liver enzymes and lipid levels are recommended
