AMK

AMK is a penicillin-group antibiotic combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It contains two active ingredients: Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid. This medication is classified as a dangerous drug that must be used under medical or pharmacist supervision.

AMK is used to treat various bacterial infections including:

AMK works through two complementary mechanisms:

Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes that some bacteria produce to destroy Amoxicillin. This extends the drug's effectiveness to cover a broader range of bacteria, including those resistant to Amoxicillin alone.

The drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and primarily excreted through the kidneys.

For Adults and Children 12 Years and Older (Weight over 40 kg)

• Take 1 tablet twice daily, every 12 hours
• Take immediately after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and improve absorption

For Children Under 12 Years (Weight under 40 kg)

• Use oral suspension form

For Elderly Patients

If You Miss a Dose

• Take the missed dose as soon as you remember
• If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose

Common Side Effects

• Diarrhea (most common)

• Oral or vaginal yeast infections

Serious Side Effects (Stop medication and seek medical attention immediately)

• Severe allergic reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome
• Swelling of face, lips, or throat
• Difficulty breathing
• Severe and persistent diarrhea (may indicate C. difficile colitis)
• Seizures (very rare, at high doses)

Do Not Use If

• You have a history of allergy to Amoxicillin, Clavulanic acid, penicillins, or cephalosporins
• You have a history of jaundice or liver dysfunction from this medication
• Children under 2 months of age

• Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication
• Do not take with Methotrexate, Probenecid, or Warfarin without consulting a physician
• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets
